Five Al Jazeera Journalists Killed in Israeli Strike
In a devastating attack, five journalists from the Al Jazeera network were killed in an Israeli strike near Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. The network has condemned the incident as a "planned assassination" and a "deliberate attack on press freedom."
The journalists, including reporters Anas al-Sharif and Muhammad Qiqeh, along with three cameramen, were in a tent at the hospital's main gate when the strike occurred. Al Jazeera reports that a total of seven people died in the attack.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) later confirmed that their target was Anas al-Sharif, claiming he was a "leader in the terrorist group Hamas." The IDF did not comment on the deaths of the other journalists.
This tragic event highlights the extreme dangers faced by journalists covering the conflict. With international media largely barred from entering Gaza, local reporters like al-Sharif have been the world's primary source for information from the ground.
