Tanzania Commits to Supporting Landlocked Nations' Port Access

Tanzania has officially announced its strong commitment to helping landlocked countries in East Africa gain access to seaports. The government, based in the capital city of Dodoma, has expressed a keen interest in having these nations utilize its Port of Dar es Salaam.

The announcement was made during the 3rd UN Conference for Landlocked Developing Countries. At the conference, Tanzanian officials highlighted that they have already begun undertaking various infrastructure development projects to significantly increase the capacity and efficiency of the port. This move is aimed at making the Port of Dar es Salaam a more viable and attractive option for trade and economic activity.

A local media report noted that Tanzania also specifically praised the efforts of both Ethiopia and Uganda in their quest to secure sea access, recognizing these initiatives as crucial for their respective economic growth. This indicates a broader, regional focus on fostering economic collaboration and providing vital transit corridors for trade.
